The Do's & Don'ts of Body Waxing

Do:

Exfoliate using the polished dolls salt scrub. It is a great way to keep those blackheads and ingrown hairs away. Using a salt scrub is very beneficial because it helps to break up dead skin cells, revealing a clean fresh layer of youthful skin underneath.

Do:

Ask your esthetician for different exfoliating tactics. Depending on the skin and any particular conditions the skin may be experiencing, different exfoliating tactics can be used to achieve the best result. Also, do not be afraid to ask for proof that your esthetician is licensed. Be sure that you are trusting someone that is not only qualified, but who cares about you and the well being of their clients.

Do:

Keep the area dry after waxing unless taking a bath or shower that starts warm and ends cool. Each client's skin varies, but you want to eliminate the amount of steaming hot water after receiving waxing services. Also do not use any fragrances in the freshly waxed or exfoliated area for at least 48 hours.

Do:

Know that after receiving waxing services, your pores remain open for 72 hours after your wax appointment. We recommended abstaining from activities such as exercise, sexual intercourse, and hot baths or jacuzzis during this time period.

Do:

Drink plenty of water as this helps to soften the hairs. However, please note that a full bladder can cause discomfort to open follicles, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Do:

Understand that with consistency, the hair grows back thinner and finer, allowing for a quicker and more comfortable waxing experience. Be sure to book your appointments 3-6 weeks apart. Receiving consistent waxing services, allows the hair to be removed during its softest stage of the growth cycle. For example, if you wait 3-6 months, the hair will no longer be in its softest stage and will be stronger and bulbus once again. In order to get the best results, we need to weaken each stage by removing the follicles in a timely manner.

Don't:

Extract or pick at your ingrown hairs. The bacteria found in an infected follicle, combined with inflammation from waxing, weakens the pore lining. When you squeeze the ingrown hairs, this not only makes the inflammation worst, but may cause an infection in the surrounding pores, resulting in a slower and more uncomfortable healing process.

Don't:

Shave in between waxing appointments. Our goal of consistent hair removal is to remove the root of the hair, so that it grows back finer and thinner. Shaving in between appointments allows the root to grow stronger, ultimately making the waxing experience more uncomfortable the next time you receive the service.
